Profile of candidates:
• Ph.D. degree in one of life sciences disciplines (chemical technology, material science, engineering or applied physics)
• aptitude and passion for research
• documented scientific achievements including publications in recognized international scientific journals with cumulative IF > 15
• foreign experience: at least one short-term stay (one month) at a foreign university and three contributions to foreign conferences of international prestige
• fluency in spoken and written English
• proven scientific achievements and experience in the field of development new photocatalytic, catalytic, semiconductor materials, magnetic particles
• practical knowledge in the use of both modern analytical and numerical methods, other advantage will be experience in the area of modelling
• is ready for full involvement in the project, consisting in regular meetings with other members of the project and regular reporting on the progress of work to the PI
• independent thinking in experiment designing
• experience in gaining independent funding for research is a plus

Opis zadań:

A Post-doc position is available in the Laboratory of Photocatalysis in professor Anna Zielińska-Jurek Group, Department of Process Engineering and Chemical Technology, Gdańsk University of Technology in Gdańsk.

We are looking for a candidate who would like to work as Post-doc in the frame of Sonata-Bis project “ Design, synthesis, and physicochemical characterization of 2D nanosheet-based hybrid photocatalysts for degradation of pharmaceuticals”.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Among various efforts to extend TiO2 photocatalytic activity especially attention is focused on the design of TiO2 morphology and microstructure during preparation procedure in order to achieve enhanced photodegradation of persistent organic pollutants. Recently, two-dimensional (2D) TiO2 nanomaterials with atomic-level thickness have attracted considerable attention. The application of 2D titania nanosheet can provide an effective way to improve the photocatalyst performance. Moreover, heterojunction of TiO2 nanosheets with highly exposed (001) facets with conducting polymer nanostructures will allow to achieve high-performance photocatalysts under UV and visible light irradiation. To solve the problem with separation of nanosized TiO2 we propose functionalization of 2-D TiO2 with 0D, 2D magnetic particles. Obtained 2D hybrid photocatalysts can be easily separable from the system and reused in the photocatalytic reaction of the degradation of pharmaceuticals in the aqueous phase. Model for quantitatively describing the relationship between the structure and the properties of photocatalysts will be developed and allow to optimize the degradation process, and therefore more efficient photocatalytic degradation of pharmaceuticals from water.

Scientific tasks:
• Structural design and performance evaluation of magnetic hybrid photocatalysts.
• Development of mathematical model QSPR for prediction the relationship between the experimental variables e.g. concentration, temperature, magnetic saturation and the response variable for the evaluation of photocatalytic activity,
• DFT calculations

Maximum period of employment agreement: from September 2020 to June 2021
