We are looking for: scholars analyzing (cinematic) media cultures of minorities; partners from Southeastern Europe (e.g. Bulgaria, Slovenia, Romania) are especially welcome Our expertise: media analysis of Muslim communities in the context of migration (Germany: Prof. Dr. Dr. Rauf Ceylan, University Osnabrück & Dr. Ömer Alkin, Philipps-University Marburg); African communities in Europe (Dr. Matthias De Groof, Universiteit Antwerp)
Our research project aims at understanding (subscription) video on demand streaming platforms with regard to both: the transformational potential of digitalization and its dangers. It analyzes the generation of cinematic reflective knowledge of affected minorities (migrants, LGBTQ* etc.). Methods: mixed method between innovative focus group analysis and media reception analyses. The project poses the question of whether the heterogenization of film consumption practice and the making available of representational offers is conducive to the development of cultural diversity or, to the contrary, of the reinforcing of ethnic, gender, class or geographical bias.
