A Polish research team, led by prof. Hubert van den Berg from Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan, together with his peers from the Netherlands will investigate cultural encounters between proponents of the Entente and sections of society sympathising with Germany and the other Central Powers during the First World War. This research is part of the HERA Cultural Encounters grant  − Cultural exchange in a time of global conflict − carried out in cooperation with researchers from Germany and the UK. The grantees will analyse a complex range of material – archival documents, newspapers, journals, literary texts, films, photographs, paintings, and sound-recordings. This interdisciplinary project will map and analyse cultural encounters, elements of exchange and mobility in the First World War as well as their traces and legacies in today’s Europe in the context of the Great War’s centenary commemorations.
